Alice Hart-Davis is in the final week of her online life coaching course, The Life Class, with Jacqueline Hurst designed to help her achieve her goal of writing a book – she reflects on all she has learned and shares exciting news
Suddenly, it’s the end of the course. We have spent the past week tying up the fine print of running a life coaching business, coaching each other and having our final group call. I say ‘we’ because, even though I’ve only met the others on the course virtually and spoken to them on the phone – I feel we are a gang. When I’ve been working through an issue or grappling with a particular problem over the past weeks, there has always been the opportunity to jump onto the ‘forum’ on The Life Class website and get other people’s opinions. I’d say that I’m going to miss them, except that we are now all part of a class Facebook group, so I am sure we will stay in touch.

The main task this week has been doing the final assessment – a sort of online exam, which involves answering a mass of questions and sending it off for marking, along with an audio file of a recent coaching session. Most of the others have already done it and are already certified Life Class Life Coaches – cue much virtual-whooping – and after putting it off and putting it off, I’ve surprised myself by getting it done at least 12 hours ahead of the final deadline.
Not only have I put together an outline and a pitch for a book, but I’ve found an agent who likes it, and who has signed us both up.
And the big excitement has come in the form of positive news about this book I’ve been talking about writing. Well, not exactly about that book, since that has gone on the back burner for a while, but only because an even better book idea has come along. It turned out that Jacqueline Hurst, the founder of The Life Class, has a book up her sleeve that she wants to write, and she needs help to put it together. So, naturally, I offered to help, and it has all moved along like greased lightning since them. Not only have I put together an outline and a pitch, but I’ve found an agent who likes it, and who has signed us both up.
What’s it about? Well, even if everything goes smoothly (and it will, won’t it; if I get writer’s block, Jacqueline can coach me out of it), it won’t be out until next year so I’d rather not say just now, but no, it’s not about life coaching.
What I’ve learned this week:
- Finishing feels great That when you start a project, you need to follow through. It feels so much better than not quite getting to the end.
- The truth of the old maxim that whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right. So, how much better is it to think that you can, then just do it, whatever ‘it’ is. And besides, until you try it, you’ll never know quite how much you can achieve.
