Maude Hirst is a born and bred East Londoner, best known for her role as Helga in the hit TV show ‘Vikings. She is an actor turned mindfulness teacher on a mission to make mindfulness accessible to everyone. Discovering yoga and meditation has totally changed her life for the better and she believes it can do the same for you.

Maude is trained in yoga, meditation, intuitive movement meditation, Theta Healing and Reiki and has created her company EnergyRise (www.energyrise.co.uk) to bring you an array of mindfulness practices in order to cater to your individual needs.

At a time where there is more stress and anxiety in the world than ever before, Maude believes mindfulness is the key to bringing some calm, clarity and direction to your life through simple practices. Empowering you to listen to what truly makes you happy and who you truly are.

What does being healthy mean to you - really?

Being healthy to me means paying attention to my body and giving it exactly what it needs. We often get caught up in the busyness of everyday life and forget to tune in and listen to how we really feel and the inner guidance of our bodies.

Meditation can be a key tool to pause and check in. Your body knows what it needs to be healthy, our job is just to pause and listen.

Life is all about balance. I believe anything in extreme can be unhealthy, including the good stuff. Switch the focus away from limiting yourself and adding in things that you don’t enjoy (just to be ‘healthy’) and focus on what makes you feel great.

Find an exercise practice that you actually enjoy, add healthy bits to your diet that you think are delicious and find a mindfulness practice that helps you reduce your stress levels. Life is too short to spend it miserable and deprived – find YOUR individual balance.

Meditation. It is the first thing I do everyday before switching my phone on and it can completely shift the mood I wake up in from overthinking to a calm, clarity.

As little as 10 minutes a day can make a huge difference.

I will be bringing my passion and knowledge of mindfulness, demystifying what it means to be mindful (bringing awareness) and making it accessible to everyone. You don’t have to make huge changes in your life to feel significant shifts in your stress and anxiety levels, it can be as simple as bringing your awareness to your breath.

I will be introducing lost of paths into mindfulness, so you can find one that works for your individual needs, whether it be an active yoga practice, a seated meditation or anything in between.

A warm halloumi salad with tender stem broccoli, asparagus and seeds:

  • Pan fry halloumi in a non-stick pan for 2 minutes on each side
  • Toast a selection of seeds (also in a non stick pan)
  • Steam broccoli and asparagus
  • Toss it all together in a bowl of lettuce and add an olive oil and balsamic dressing.
